So it’s been confirmed that Michael Cheika will be the new Wallabies coach, less than a week after Ewen Mckenzie’s shock resignation. One thing I couldn’t understand was the attack mounted against him in the media in the week leading up to his resignation. Rumours were circulated in the media about Mckenzie having an affair with former business manager Di Patston, as well as rumours of him having lost the respect of the players. It was made clear on Saturday night that he had not lost the players, were it not for some very poor decisions in the 79th minute; it would’ve been the Wallabies first win against the All Blacks in years. I think the attacks Mckenzie suffered in the media were completely unsubstantiated, and that Australian rugby has just lost a great coach, and a great ambassador for the game.
