One of the first things we learnt at JSchool was grammar. It was also one of the many appealing things about the course coming from Canadian curriculum where they no longer teach basic English. And doing my studies in French didn’t help my spelling either. I can never remember if there are “es” on the ends of words or not.

I therefore loved the grammar lessons and was thrilled to finally get answers to all my burning questions like “Can you start or end a sentence with a preposition” and “what exactly is an English verb”.

But I will warn you right now, knowing your grammar really ruins the reading experience. I bought a book the other day on issues facing rural Australia. Scientifically, I know he is right but I couldn’t help myself, I had to pick up a pen and start correcting the grammar. I think there is more ink on the pages than print. Dogh! On the bright side, if I can’t get a job as a journalist, maybe someone will hire me as an editor…
